What's new in JustCode

Every release, newest first. The latest is JustCode 0.4.0. When a new version is out, JustCode shows these notes in the app with Update now and Later.

JustCode 0.4.0

Discord, phone access from anywhere, and a smarter editor

Discord Rich Presence, an optional JustCode account to reach your computer from your phone anywhere, a new home at just-code.dev, and many editor, npm and terminal improvements.

  • Discord Rich Presence: show that you are coding in JustCode, with the language you are in. Off by default; turn it on in Settings › Discord.
  • JustCode account (opt-in, Settings › Experimental features): answer your agents from your phone from anywhere, end-to-end encrypted, every device approved on your computer.
  • A new home: just-code.dev, with the phone web app at app.just-code.dev.
  • Editor: hover and completion for environment variables from your .env files, EditorConfig quick fixes, Peek References and more language servers.
  • process.env, import.meta.env, Bun.env, Deno.env and Python os.environ show where a variable is set and complete the keys from your .env files; masked values stay hidden until you reveal them.
  • Indentation and EditorConfig problems (trailing whitespace, final newline) come with one-click fixes.
  • Peek References (Alt+Shift+F12) shows every reference inline.
  • Format Selection uses the language server when your formatter only formats whole files, and a new command creates a Prettier configuration.
  • More language servers found on your computer for trusted projects: Java, C#, PHP, Ruby, Kotlin, Swift, Dart and Lua.
  • npm: Ctrl/Cmd+click on a package import opens a menu with its npm page, README and installed files; Version Lens warns about known vulnerabilities with a fix, and asks before you pick a vulnerable version.
  • npm: disabling a package warns when it is still imported, and Update all shows registry errors on the dependency line.
  • Usage tracker: Amp and Auggie plan limits (from their own CLIs), and a Codex standalone install is found for launching too.
  • A task typed into an agent never goes into a question the agent asks first, also on slow computers.
  • Clear Console works on Windows with a program running, and a closing Windows console no longer causes an error in the terminal host.
  • Big folders show up and refresh faster in the file explorer, and typing at the end of a long file stays fast on slow computers.
  • Untrusted projects: TypeScript 7 checks files written during its network check before it starts. Live Eval refuses single allocations over its memory cap.
  • Smaller app: the shipped code is minified.
  • CodeSnap and importing VS Code themes (.vsix) are now part of the app, no longer experimental.

JustCode 0.3.1

Updates that work

The app can check for and install updates again. Install 0.3.1 by hand once; later versions arrive in the app.

  • Check for Updates works: 0.2.0 and 0.3.0 couldn't load their updater and said "The updater could not be loaded". Download 0.3.1 from this page once; from then on, new versions show up in the app.
  • Settings › About › Check now and the update notice find new versions again, and Update now installs them on Windows and with the Linux AppImage.

JustCode 0.3.0

Faster editor, safer updates, more tools

Update notices with patch notes, a faster editor, Git change markers in the editor, stronger project protections and many fixes.

  • Update notices: see what's new and choose Update now, Later or Skip. Nothing installs without asking.
  • A faster editor: switching tabs, opening big folders and typing in long files are all quicker.
  • Git change markers next to your code: peek, revert or stage each change, and jump between changes with Alt+F5.
  • Settings › Experimental features lets you switch on extra tools such as Live Eval, Test Lens and more language servers.
  • Problems an agent introduced are marked NEW, and problems also show in the diff view and as counts in the file explorer.
  • A warning when a .env file isn't ignored by git, with one-click Add to .gitignore, and badges when an agent changes a secret file.
  • JSON files can use online schemas. Projects you haven't trusted only use the built-in schema catalog.
  • The Changes tab lists the TODO and FIXME comments an agent added.
  • .editorconfig settings are applied in the editor.
  • Renaming a file in the explorer right after opening it no longer stops by itself when the file finishes loading.
  • Prompt Box: Send now sends right away when the agent is ready, and a due prompt shows why it is waiting.
  • The usage tracker no longer repeats the same alert, and remembers alerts per account.
  • Projects you haven't trusted can no longer run their tool settings through a link into a trusted project or from a folder above it.
  • Projects you haven't trusted never reach network shares through TypeScript imports, including files added while JustCode is open.
  • Saving large files is faster.
  • On Windows, Ctrl+F no longer reaches the shell when JustCode handles it.
  • On Linux, the .deb and .rpm packages start correctly on systems that restrict user namespaces, such as Ubuntu 24.04, and in containers.
  • The Windows installer no longer shows its welcome page when updating.
  • Remote access: view-only devices can no longer flood notifications, plus other remote control hardening.
  • The Grok Build icon shows its real logo.

JustCode 0.2.0

Your agents. Your editor. One workspace.

A built-in code editor and new tools for reviewing, running and improving the code your agents write, now with downloads for Windows, macOS and Linux.

  • A built-in code editor with file tabs, a file explorer, error checking, find and replace, formatting and Markdown preview.
  • Run scripts, preview web pages as you edit them, manage npm packages and keep an eye on each agent's usage limits.
  • Prompt Box: write prompts ahead of time and send them when you choose, one at a time, in order or on a schedule.
  • Downloads for Windows, macOS and Linux, each for x64 and Arm64.
  • Open files in editor groups and tabs, with a file explorer that shows Material icons.
  • Errors and warnings from your language tools appear in the editor and in a Problems list.
  • Find and replace, formatting, Markdown preview and the Git history of any file.
  • Saving checks the file on disk first, so the editor never overwrites a change an agent just made.
  • Run npm scripts and other commands with one click, and preview HTML pages with Live Server.
  • Add, update and remove npm packages from a sidebar.
  • See how much of each agent plan's usage limit is left.
  • Prompt Box saves prompts as drafts. Nothing is sent until you choose Send now or Schedule.
  • Prompt Box waits until the agent is ready and its input box is empty, and never sends a draft just because a task finished. Keep JustCode and the agent's session open for scheduled prompts.
  • Project trust also covers files reached through links: an untrusted project can't run its scripts or tools.
  • A guided Windows installer: choose the install folder, a desktop shortcut and the Open in JustCode folder menu entry.
  • A Mac disk image: drag JustCode into Applications.
  • Linux .deb, .rpm and AppImage packages, with a setup helper that checks your download against its checksum and never deletes your projects.
  • Linux Arm64 packages are built and tested in CI but haven't been tested on physical Arm64 hardware.
  • Remote Access: clearing a terminal or removing a device now shows on every connected device.
  • Updates pick the right download for your system and processor.
  • More tools, such as Live Eval, Test Lens, Maven and MongoDB, can be switched on in Settings › Experimental features.
  • Coming from 0.1? Download and install 0.2.0 once by hand. After that, JustCode shows an update notice with the patch notes when a new version is out.
